The Benefits of Mulching Your Trees
Mulching offers many advantages to your trees. It replicates the natural system that so many of our trees have been removed from. Mulching provides an environment which aids growth of beneficial micro-organisms. It provides better soil temperature and moisture control for your trees. When we place mulch around the base of our trees, it results in less competition from the grass. Whilst grass is certainly a beautiful landscape feature, it regrettably is very competitive for water and soil nutrients. Often after mulching you may notice fruiting bodies from various fungi. The fungi that feed on mulch aid its composting and are not a threat to the health of your plants. In fact, these fungi are more likely to reduce the presence and effectiveness of pathogenic (non beneficial) fungi.
